ABOUT US
Japanese Martial Arts Centre is based in the Royal Oak, Bagnelstown, Co.Carlow. With over 300 sq metres of tatami area to train on, we cater for children 6 years old to adulthood.
We provide notably a safe space for all to train in but also durable, safe and top of the range equipment to train with.

Our Classes are divided into four styles -

Karate & Jiujitsu:
While our karate and jiujitsu classes are and can be physical, our classes can be tailored to everyones abilities or fitness levels or indeed learning abilities.

All strike shields, headgear and gloves are available for beginners to train. And, our jujutsu mats are thicker so safer for specific throws.

Kenjutsu & Kyujutsu:
Kenjutsu “Japanese Sword Class” and our Kyujutsu “Japanese Archery” can be a more relaxed class, not as physically demanding while still learn a beautiful Japanese Art form.

Safety is paramount on our 35m archery range, which is one of the largest in Ireland. We supply our students with a range of 8 bows and 60 arrows for training, and we also boast an arrow station where students are taught to fix/ repair broken & damaged arrows and take care of equipment, bows and the waxing of strings.

As with Kyujutsu, safety is paramount and the use of live samurai swords is not permitted on our mats.
Training is done using 'shinai', a Japanese sword made from bamboo, which is specifically used in training practice. Also, hard wood swords are used in training and development of strikes.

We take into account the history of all our martial arts styles regarding knowledge and theory.
